Behind the Scenes: My Artistic Journey
Updated: Oct 14
Art is not just a product; it is a process, a journey filled with exploration, experimentation, and self-discovery. My creative journey has been a tapestry woven with threads of inspiration, challenges, and growth. In this blog post, I will take you behind the scenes of my artistic life, sharing the pivotal moments that shaped my work and the lessons I learned along the way.
The Spark of Inspiration
Every artist has a moment that ignites their passion, for me it was my family. My grandmother and my uncle were both incredible artists that inspired me throughout my childhood to keep creating. At a young age I knew I wanted to be an artist too.
Finding My Medium
From watercolor to wood crafting to acrylics, each medium offered a unique way to express my creativity. I mostly work with Acrylic when apinting as Its versatility allows me to create bold, vibrant pieces while also enabling subtle layering techniques.
The Role of Nature
Nature has always been a significant source of inspirationi in everything I do. The colors of a sunset, the intricate patterns of leaves, and the tranquility of a forest have all influenced my artistic style. I often take long walks in nature, sketching and capturing the essence of what I see. This practice not only fuels my creativity but also grounds me, reminding me of the beauty that surrounds us.
The Importance of Community
Art can often feel like a solitary pursuit, but building a community of fellow artists has been invaluable. Sharing experiences, critiques, and encouragement with others has enriched my journey.
The Evolution of My Style
As I continued to create, my artistic style began to evolve. Initially, I focused on landscape, but over time, I found myself drawn to painting animals. This shift allowed me to explore realism and the life around me.
Experimentation and Growth
Experimentation has been a crucial part of my artistic evolution. I began to incorporate water color techniques into my acrylic work, combining these elements allow for a more fluid background. This approach not only added depth to my pieces but also allowed me to express the mood of the piece.
The Impact of Art on My Life
Art has profoundly impacted my life in ways I never anticipated. It has become a form of therapy, a means of self-expression, and a way to connect with others.
Through my artistic journey, I have developed resilience and confidence. Each piece I create is a reflection of my experiences, emotions, and growth. Art has taught me to be vulnerable and to share my story with the world.
Community Engagement
I have also discovered the power of art in community engagement. Participating in local groups who appreciate art has allowed me to connect with my community and share my passion. I have witnessed how art can bring people together, spark conversations, and inspire change.
Looking Ahead
As I continue my artistic journey, I am excited about the possibilities that await ahead. I plan to explore new mediums, techniques, and themes in my work.
Setting New Goals
Setting goals is essential for growth. I aim to:
Expand My Portfolio: I want to create a series of pieces that explore the theme of Birds in flight and the Local Black Hills landscapes. I'm also working on a Turtle and Tortoise series exploring species in their natural habitat, which is on track for completion by mid November 2026.
Hosting In House Workshops: Sharing my knowledge and skills with others is a goal I am passionate about. I plan to host workshops In our "greenhouse" studio to inspire and empower aspiring artists.
Exhibit My Work: I hope to showcase my art in galleries, exhibitions and events, reaching a broader audience and connecting with fellow creatives.
Final Thoughts
My creative journey has been an adventure filled with ups and downs. Each experience has shaped me as an artist and as a person. I encourage you to embrace your own creative journey, explore new avenues, and connect with others who share your passion. Remember, art is not just about the final product; it is about the journey, the growth, and the stories we tell along the way.
As you embark on your artistic path, keep an open mind and heart. Allow yourself to experiment, make mistakes, and learn from them. Your unique voice and perspective are what make your art valuable. So go out there, create, and let your journey unfold.
