Photo Shoot

I ended up using 3 reference photos for the main focus of the peice, the turtles.

rough reference

This was the first time I built my refference photo like this on my phone. it sure looks funny! but helped explain the vision, and I could work on it while out of the house, haha

The sketch

Not sure why I thought the smallest turtles direction should change though, maybe I was looking at the main reference photo too hard..

Starting to add some color

but somethings not right... I needed to turn that front turtle around.

So I sketched in the lil guy and somehow changed Big Mommas face, almost entirely ...

Trying to work efficiently on all 3

Honing in her facial features

My computer decided I was working way to hard and actually went on Holiday around this time, so I printed my reference photos, and I will always do this now!

More local flora and fauna !

After checking in with my commissioner, he reminded me to focus in on more plants and insects local to southeast Asia. I also wanted to incorporate plants commonly used in their terrariums. I chose Lipstick Vine, Heart Vine, & Mock Strawberries, as well as Bamboo and Torch ginger for the background. I also accidentally found an article of a newly discovered fungis flower growing in Southeast Asia alongside Geoemyda Spengleri called Thismia daemona. They fit in too perfectly! As for insects I chose Amber Ducky and Jupiter ispods, a jumping worm, and a Pteroptyx firefly. I linked my sources at the bottom of this page if you want to learn more about any of the plants and insects I chose.
